I've never hired a writer/editor/proofreader before? How does this work?

It's as easy as 1-2-3.

1) Email me information about your project and the types of services you need. I'll reply by email or phone to discuss your project, then I'll email you an estimate for your review and approval.

2) Once you have approved the estimate, your project will be scheduled, and I will begin work on it. Supporting materials are due at this point if they have not already been received.

3) Once your project is completed, I will email your project to you for approval. I want you to be completely satisfied with my work so if you would like any changes made, I will revise your project at no charge (in accordance with the project specifications, terms, and conditions, known collectively as the “Work Agreement”).

If work on your project is estimated to cost $500 or more, the following steps apply, but are still as easy as 1-2-3:

1) Email me information about your project and the types of services you need. I'll reply by email or phone to discuss your project, then I'll email you an estimate and list of milestones for your review and approval.

2) Once you have approved the estimate and milestones, your project will be scheduled, and I will begin work on it. Supporting materials are due at this point if they have not already been received.

3) As each milestone is reached, the portion of your project that has been completed will be delivered to you along with an invoice for the related amount of the total estimated cost. I want you to be completely satisfied with my work so if you would like any changes made, I will revise that portion of your project at no charge (in accordance with the project specifications, terms, and conditions, known collectively as the “Work Agreement”).

I strive to do everything I can to make your experience easy, pleasant, and painless!

I already have some of my marketing tasks being handled in-house.

I have other contractors and vendors who handle some marketing tasks for me.

No problem. I have extensive experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including photographers, art directors, graphic designers, and web designers. I’m happy to work on your project in conjunction with your employees, contractors, and vendors.

When you edit my written communications, are you just checking the spelling and grammar?

It depends on the type of editing you request. Copyediting involves checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax, among other tasks. For other types of editing, I may focus on rearranging, improving, and polishing your words as needed so they communicate your ideas, abilities, advantages, and enthusiasm, as well as the benefits of your products or services, to your current and prospective customers or patients in a clean, clear, concise, and engaging manner.

Is your work guaranteed to get me clients?

While I don't guarantee that my services will generate new business for you, I can guarantee that they will substantially improve the likelihood that people will contact you to do business. I can also assure you that if your business communications don't undergo editing and proofreading to make them the cleanest, clearest, smoothest, and most compelling they can be, it will drive away business. Nothing turns off potential clients faster than business publications that are confusing or that contain incorrect spelling, improper punctuation, or poor grammar. These errors tell them you don’t care about presenting yourself in a professional manner. Customers doubt the quality of your products or services, and they take their business elsewhere. Well-written, edited, and proofread copy is a necessity if you truly want to convey your best image to your potential and established clients or patients, your peers, and your competitors.

Do you accept quick turnaround/“rush” jobs?

Yes, if my schedule allows. Additional fees apply.

Do you offer discounted rates?

A discounted rate may be available, depending on considerations such as the types of services requested, the time frame, and the estimated number of billable hours.

If you change my words, will my business communications still sound like me?

I’ll always strive to keep your "voice" intact. My goal isn’t to make you sound like me; my goal is to make you sound like you at your very best!

Will I have a chance to review and approve the work you do for me?

Absolutely. You and I are a team and our shared goal is to put your best message forward. All the work I do is customized to your needs, so your feedback is essential to completing your project successfully.

If I hire you to write something for me, will it be completely original?

Yes. I do not use pre-written content, "spun" content, or templates, and I NEVER plagiarize. If appropriate for your project, I may incorporate information from other sources, such as books, magazines, industry journals, or the Internet, but I will always give proper attribution. At your request, I will incorporate into your project existing content that you provide to me and for which you own the rights.

If you write or edit something for me, do you own it?

All rights to the project revert to you once I receive full payment for my services; however, I reserve the right to add your project (in whole or in part) to my website’s Writing Samples portfolio as an example of work I’ve done. I will change identifying information (personal names, business names, practice names, locations, etc.) in the project before it is posted to my website to provide you anonymity.

What if I have questions or concerns about my project AFTER I’ve paid you in full?

I want you to be a satisfied client, even after I’ve completed and delivered your project. Please bring to my attention any questions or concerns you have. I’ll do what I can to answer those questions and address those concerns.

Do you offer any other writing services not listed on the Services page?

I’m always up for a challenge. Please contact me with the specific writing or editing project you have in mind, and we’ll discuss it.

I’ve worked hard to address the most common questions I receive. If you have a question that’s not addressed here, please email it to me and I’ll reply with an answer.
